Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced lands July 9, and preloads are already live
The best Assassin's Creed nobody expected to get a full remake is days away, and you can start clearing space right now. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced drops on July 9, and Ubisoft has finally handed out the preload details. If you were waiting for a sign to cancel your weekend plans, this is it.
Quick refresher for anyone who somehow missed the original. Black Flag came out back in 2013, and a lot of people (us included) still call it the peak of the series. Naval combat, sea shanties, actual pirate fantasy done right. Resynced rebuilds the whole thing from the ground up on the latest Anvil engine, so we're talking ray tracing, micropolygon rendering, and a fresh coat of paint on Edward Kenway's Caribbean.
What's actually new
This isn't just a resolution bump. Matt Ryan, the original voice of Edward, is back, and so is the rest of the original cast. There are extra missions and new scenes, plus expanded storylines for fan favorites like Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. If you only played Black Flag for the sea battles, good news, but the remake is clearly leaning into the characters too.
Preload and file sizes
Here's the part you clicked for. Xbox Series X|S players can already preload, and the download sits around 64 GB. PS5 preloads open a little later, on July 7, so console owners get a short runway before launch day. PC is the awkward one - no official preload date locked in yet, and the install lands around 63 GB. On PlayStation it's closer to 62 GB, so budget roughly 60 to 64 GB depending on your platform.
Worth saying: it launches on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and on PC you'll find it on the Ubisoft Store, Steam, and Epic. No last-gen version here, which tracks given how much heavier the tech is this time around.
If you never touched the 2013 version, honestly, jealous. You get to sail into Nassau for the first time with all the modern bells and whistles. And if you're a returning captain, well, you already know why this one matters.
