Button Down: Twin Pack expands the core experience of the action indie casual game Button Down with new twin button mechanics and two extended chapters set in a washing machine and a coat pocket.
Gameplay
The twin button system links a plain button that the player directly controls to a partner button via a single thread. Slack in the thread lets the partner slide to a stop, while pulling it taut drags the partner forward. Sharp turns cause the partner to swing in a wide arc. Both buttons share a single health bar, and the partner can be damaged by enemies. The player starts with two starter weapons, while the partner accesses two exclusive weapons that fire from its position.
Weapon cards draw from a pool of eight options. Four are exclusive to each button in the pair, and four are shared across both. Specific twin pairings include Pearl with needle and rubber band effects that slow enemies before firing, Maroon with pencil lead and keyring for piercing and sweeping attacks, and Gold with coin and bottle cap where the partner blocks ahead while the main button fires from behind. These pairings function across all chapters in the base game as well.
Positioning remains central. The player steers only the plain button, and thread tension determines partner movement and positioning for combined attacks. Enemies arrive in waves with elites appearing at set intervals, and the shared health bar adds risk to using the second button effectively.
Game Modes
Button Down: Twin Pack adds two chapters, each structured as a roughly 40-minute run that reaches its boss at the 36-minute mark. Both follow the same four difficulty bands as the base game's expansion chapters: easy through the first 10 minutes, average to 20 minutes, hard to 30 minutes, then a steady climb. Elites spawn at the 5-, 11-, and 20-minute marks.
The Washing Machine chapter features enemies such as Lost Sock, Hairpin, Soap Suds, Soggy Tissue, and Coin Purse, with the Spin Drum as the final gatekeeper. The Coat Pocket chapter includes Crumpled Receipt, Bus Token, Candy Wrapper, Lip Balm, and Hand Warmer, ending with the Buttonhole. Twin buttons integrate into every chapter of the base game, whether or not the partner button was purchased there.
Two new boss abilities appear in these chapters. Whirl cycles through push, pull, and dash spin patterns. Players can walk into push and pull to hold position, while the dash spin locks its direction after a brief aim and rolls three times, catching and flinging nearby enemies. Cinch closes a ring around the boss to trap everything inside without damage, followed by Stitch dashing in a zigzag to leave temporary thread barriers and Button Up pinning a ring on the player's position before pulling inward for damage. The partner button experiences the same effects from these abilities.
Content and Features
The pack includes three twin buttons, two full chapters, 18 new enemies consisting of 10 trash types, 6 elites, and 2 ending bosses, plus the two new boss abilities. It also adds 8 achievements. One achievement tracks clearing every chapter with a twin button, which incorporates the new chapters even without owning the separate free expansion.
Installation requires the base game and an update to version 1.2.0 or later, as the DLC content integrates directly into the base build. The chapters and twin buttons will not appear without that update. The free expansion is not required for the Twin Pack content.
Is It Worth Playing?
Button Down: Twin Pack suits players who enjoy precise positioning and shared-resource mechanics in a survivor-like roguelite format with fixed-length chapter runs. The twin system introduces meaningful trade-offs through the shared health bar and thread-based partner control, while the new chapters deliver consistent 40-minute experiences with escalating difficulty and specific boss patterns that reward learning attack timings and evasion.
The pack expands the base game's chapter variety without altering core systems, making it a direct addition for those already invested in the button's drawer survival loop. Availability depends on owning the base game, and the content ships as part of the updated base build. Player reception remains limited due to the game's recent release, with no aggregated review scores available yet. Those who appreciate the base mechanics of weapon orbits, enemy waves, and boss-focused runs will find the twin pairings and new environments add fresh layers to the same structure.
