About Arvel

Arvel - about the game

Arvel is an action RPG in early access on PC that blends single-player progression with competitive and cooperative multiplayer elements. Players control a character who recruits mercenaries, selects weapons that define combat style, and participates in varied activities ranging from territory control to endless survival challenges. The experience emphasizes precise timing in combat, loot collection for powerful affixes, and flexible squad building that works alone or with others.

Gameplay

Combat revolves around the weapon held rather than a fixed class selection. One-handed swords, sword and shield combinations, two-handed weapons, dual wielding, spears, bows, and magic wands each unlock distinct skill paths. Switching weapons requires building familiarity through repeated use, as mastery develops over time. Magic wands split into offensive or healing branches, allowing players to adapt their approach mid-campaign.

Basic attacks start with a left-click and branch into timed follow-ups using Q for faster but weaker strikes or E for slower, stronger attacks that knock enemies back. These timing windows reward reading enemy patterns and chaining actions deliberately instead of button mashing. Mercenaries add another layer, as each carries personality traits like bravery, discipline, or compassion that influence when they activate abilities under player orders.

Loot drops in multiple tiers and rarities, with prefixes and suffixes generating names such as Cruel Longsword of the Eagle. Eight equipment slots cover main weapon, off-hand, helmet, armor, gloves, boots, necklace, and ring. Affixes vary in strength across tiers, and collecting set pieces strengthens bonuses. The loop encourages repeated dungeon runs to chase specific rolls on higher-tier items.

Game Modes

Conquest places an Archon at the map center. Capturing it starts point accumulation for the controlling faction, with the first to reach 200 points declared the winner. Contested control halts scoring, so teams must defend against opposing players and environmental threats to maintain advantage. Matches support team sizes from 1v1 up to 3v3 under opposing banners.

Dungeon mode focuses on gear hunting and experience gains. Rooms and corridors reshuffle each run, with higher difficulties unlocking better equipment tiers. Players explore, fight, and extract stronger items to improve their squad.

Survival features continuous waves arriving every two minutes, each adding attack directions from new sides. There is no final wave or boss, only escalating pressure until the base falls. The goal is to last as long as possible, with personal records tracking performance.

Custom mode includes a built-in editor for terrain, villages, resources, and monsters. Created maps transfer automatically to joining players, supporting private sessions with friends.

Progression and Customization

Mercenary recruitment builds a personal squad where individual personalities shape decision-making during fights. A hotheaded recruit might use skills immediately, while a disciplined one waits for optimal moments. This system adds variety without altering core commands.

Item hunting drives long-term engagement through tiered drops and affix variety. Even identical stat bonuses differ in value between low and high tiers, and unique items can roll differently. Set bonuses reward collecting matching pieces, encouraging targeted farming in dungeons.

Players may venture alone with their mercenaries or invite friends into the same world. Conquest provides direct player-versus-player conflict, while other modes support cooperative exploration and defense.

Is It Worth Playing?

Arvel suits players who enjoy action RPGs with weapon-driven combat, timing-based combos, and loot systems centered on affixes and sets. The early access state means core modes like Conquest, Dungeon, Survival, and Custom are available, along with mercenary recruitment and solo or group play options. Those drawn to holding objectives under pressure, endless wave defense, or map creation will find matching systems here. The emphasis on personality-influenced AI and precise attack chaining provides depth for repeated sessions, particularly for fans of indie action RPGs that mix PvE progression with small-scale PvP. Availability on PC in early access allows direct access to these mechanics as development continues.
