About Bad Beans

Bad Beans - about the game

Bad Beans is an action indie casual game that blends cute visuals with brutal trap-filled chaos on PC. Players control adorable bean characters in a deathrun party setup where one participant controls deadly obstacles while others race to survive.

Gameplay

The core loop revolves around rounds of frantic movement and trap activation. One player acts as the Bad Bean, positioned on a balcony to trigger hazards by slamming buttons. The remaining players navigate obstacle courses filled with moving platforms, fake tiles, and lethal devices. Movement options include holding to jump high, tapping for quick hops, or diving forward to dodge threats. Beans can grab others to slow them down or shove rivals aside, turning cooperation into a competitive tool. Fake floor tiles shift positions each round, visible clearly only to the Bad Bean while runners spot faint hints if they pause. Reaching the finish line allows activation of a revenge mechanism that collapses the Bad Bean's platform. Traps number 49 across categories like trapdoors, crushers, axe pendulums, lava bridges, avalanches, freeze rays, laser fences, shredders, falling chandeliers and pianos, toy trains, chattering teeth, whack-a-mole mallets, carousels, and a boulder named Gerald. Deaths range from squishing and slicing to impalement, burning, electrocution, explosions, and dismemberment, with lingering bodies and blood pools that affect later movement through footprints.

Playing as the Bad Bean emphasizes timing and strategy. Buttons can be pressed in sequences for combo multipliers such as DOUBLE TROUBLE, TRIPLE THREAT, MEGA MEAN, and TRAP LORD. A bluff option flashes a warning light without firing traps to disrupt runners. Overusing buttons causes overheating that locks controls for several seconds. Customization lets players select from 24 colors including special variants like Galaxy and Hologram, plus dozens of eyes, mouths, hats, and outfits. Rounds award coins based on performance for unlocking emotes and appearances without additional purchases.

Game Modes

Online play supports up to eight participants through hosted sessions or public lobbies, with bots filling gaps and assuming control for disconnected players. Solo mode pits one human against six AI opponents including named bots like Sir Trips-a-Lot, Big Steve, and Kevin, with the human serving as Bad Bean every third round or on demand. Mutators alter later rounds on any map, introducing effects such as Moon Bounce, Googly Eyes, Buttered Floors, Speed Demons, and Tiny Beans. Main Character Mode grants the final survivor a speed boost and slow-motion sequence. Spectators observe ongoing rounds after elimination. Each round lasts under two minutes, and graphics settings range from low to epic with an automatic benchmark on launch.

Seven distinct maps provide variety: Sugar Rush Factory features trapdoors, crushers, taffy pullers, cookie cutters, and Gerald; Temple of Nope includes ancient ruins on fire with lava falls; Cold Feet Peaks offers icicles, avalanches, snowplows, freeze rays, and tipping ice floes; Glitch City contains zap floors, saw tracks, laser fences, drones, and a conveyor hazard; Manor of Mistakes has chandeliers, guillotines, falling pianos, haunted armor, and floorboard hands; Toy Box Terror presents a bedroom setting with toy trains, jack-in-the-boxes, and chattering teeth; Carnival of Carnage delivers whack-a-mole, bumper cars, and a nonstop carousel.

Visuals and Presentation

The game uses cartoon-style graphics that contrast bright bean designs against graphic cartoon violence. Persistent blood and bodies remain on courses until rounds conclude. System requirements target Windows 10 or 11 with directX 12 support, scaling from basic quad-core setups with 8 GB RAM to recommended six-core processors and 16 GB RAM for higher presets. An internet connection applies only to online sessions.

Is It Worth Playing?

Bad Beans targets players who enjoy short-session party games with competitive sabotage and physical comedy. The mix of runner survival and trap control creates repeated tension across quick rounds, supported by bot assistance for smaller groups and mutators for replay variety. Customization and earned cosmetics add progression without external costs. The planned release in December 2026 means the experience remains unavailable until then, after which its cartoon gore and chaotic multiplayer focus will suit those comfortable with exaggerated violence in a lighthearted wrapper. Solo play with bots provides a complete option for single-player sessions while online expands the social element. Those seeking fast, replayable deathrun mechanics with bean-themed humor will find the verified systems align closely with that preference.
