Bold Hole is a single-player black hole game in Early Access on PC. Players guide a growing black hole across miniature 3D planets, starting small and expanding by consuming objects and structures while managing resistance and threats from the environment.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on directing the black hole to swallow progressively larger targets. It begins with pebbles, rocks, and streetlights before advancing to cars, skyscrapers, and defense headquarters. Objects topple, collide, and disappear into the singularity, with people sometimes falling from rooftops or deploying parachutes to escape. Larger targets increase resistance, requiring careful navigation and timing.
Combat and disruption mechanics add layers to movement. Helicopters and tanks fire projectiles that must be avoided or countered. Available abilities include a shockwave to knock aircraft from the sky, a gravity surge to draw in nearby items, and a time-stasis field that halts bullets entering its area. A nuclear warning prompts a dash that uses the resulting blast to propel objects into the air. Environmental interactions include swallowing a dam to expose fish and submerged vehicles or disabling power stations to create darkness and trigger evacuations.
Progression involves leveling up to select from three upgrades per choice. These combine dash and shock variants with gravity effects, swallowing combos, fission, evolutions, and mutations. Earned dark matter funds permanent improvements in the Singularity Workshop, including ability variants and starting cores. Certain powerful cores require specific unlock challenges, and each new save begins without one.
Game Modes
The base game features two chapters set on Earth and the Iron Fortress. An enemy-free Free Mode allows unrestricted exploration without threats. Photo Mode supports adjustable miniature-cartoon visuals. Controls use keyboard and mouse, with support for English and Simplified Chinese.
A free demo covers the initial portion of the Earth chapter up to level 16, including an ending preview and the fiery accretion-disk black hole style. The full Early Access version adds the leftmost black hole style, Free Mode, and the Singularity Workshop. Demo and full-game saves remain separate. The two right-hand black hole styles stay unavailable in the current release.
Progression and Customization
Each run encourages different black hole builds through upgrade selections and workshop investments. Dark matter serves as currency for lasting growth and variant unlocks. Core choices influence starting conditions and require dedicated challenges for the strongest options. The system supports experimentation across multiple playthroughs while maintaining separate save files.
Two selectable black hole appearances are available from the start in the base game, with visual customization through an adjustable miniature-cartoon style. Performance and content continue to evolve during Early Access, with plans to refine balance and usability based on ongoing development.
Is It Worth Playing?
Bold Hole suits players interested in single-player experiences focused on incremental growth, ability combination, and environmental interaction on compact 3D stages. The current Early Access scope includes the two chapters, Free Mode, workshop features, and demo access for initial testing. No user reviews exist yet, as the game remains unreleased. Those who enjoy the described swallowing mechanics and upgrade systems may find value in following development updates and providing feedback through community channels. The planned pricing starts at the minimum Steam tier and rises with added content, with existing owners receiving the full release at no extra cost.
