Corny Johnny is a top-down bullet-heaven survivor game set in a Wild West overrun by aggressive crops. Players control a corn cob cowboy who must survive waves of GMO veggie mutants using auto-firing weapons while dodging attacks and building power through upgrades.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on short, intense runs where movement and positioning matter most. Weapons fire automatically at the nearest enemy, leaving the player free to weave through crowds of broccoli bits, shroomlings, and gatling grapes. Between waves, experience and gold allow draws from Harvest level-up cards and visits to a shop for stacking weapons and modifiers. Runs last up to 20 waves, with escalating difficulty that shifts through Setup, Squeeze, and Chaos phases.
Permanent progression comes from Gold Bars earned across attempts. These unlock lasting upgrades such as Hearty Kernels, Spicy Fertilizer, and Golden Harvest that carry over to future runs. Companion drones and ground rovers provide additional support by burning, zapping, or slowing enemies. The hand-drawn Western art style pairs with an original soundtrack to create a consistent frontier atmosphere.
Game Modes
Corny Johnny offers a single-player experience focused on wave-based survival runs. Each attempt places the player in one of three arenas-desert, mud, or snow-with the goal of reaching wave 20. Four multi-phase boss encounters occur at waves 5, 10, 15, and 20, ending with GMO Prime. There are no separate multiplayer or alternate modes confirmed at this stage.
Characters and Progression
Ten playable characters, including OG Johnny, Don Cornleone, Kernel Sanders, and RoboCob, each start with a distinct weapon and passive ability. This variety encourages different starting strategies while the between-wave systems allow every run to develop unique weapon combinations from the pool of 12 auto-firing options. The meta-progression system rewards repeated play by expanding available upgrades over time.
Is It Worth Playing?
The game enters Early Access as a fully playable title with a complete 20-wave structure, three arenas, and four boss fights already in place. It targets fans of bullet-heaven survivors who enjoy roguelite elements and quick replayable sessions. Because it launches in Early Access, players can expect balance adjustments, new weapons, enemies, and arenas based on feedback during the planned 6-to-12-month period. Those who prefer polished single-player experiences with room for growth may find value in joining early to influence development.
