About Do Not Eject

Do Not Eject - about the game

Do Not Eject is an action indie game on PC that blends retro handheld aesthetics with bullet heaven roguelite mechanics. Players boot corrupted cartridges, select a digital partner creature, and survive waves of enemies while building increasingly chaotic projectile attacks that fill the screen with ricochets, orbits, explosions, and chain reactions.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on short sessions where automatic combat handles the bulk of offense, freeing attention for movement and positioning. Runs begin with basic projectiles that evolve through installed Modules, which alter behavior in fundamental ways, and stackable Patches that boost overall power. Auxiliary Chips, chosen before a run starts, introduce elemental interactions that create new synergies across different partner weapons.

Each cartridge presents a distinct environment filled with corrupted programs. Survival leads to more upgrades, turning a handful of shots into elaborate combinations of piercing, homing, bouncing, and orbiting effects. Automatic stat growth maintains momentum, so the focus stays on dodging and selecting the next upgrade that pushes a build further into absurdity.

Game Modes

Do Not Eject structures its experience around repeated roguelite runs rather than separate named modes. Every attempt takes place inside a chosen cartridge, ending either in victory against the guardian or failure that still yields resources. Corruption Levels serve as the primary difficulty scaler, increasing enemy speed, boss toughness, and encounter danger after a cartridge is restored.

Failed runs contribute Data Bits, Core Shards, and Creature Mastery that carry forward permanently. These feed into console upgrades and partner Memory Trees, ensuring progress accumulates across attempts. The system encourages repeated play on the same cartridge at higher corruption settings to test how far a favorite partner can go before the pressure becomes overwhelming.

Partners and Progression

Defeating a cartridge guardian purifies it and adds the trapped creature as a new playable partner. Each partner brings a unique weapon style, a signature passive ability, exclusive Modules, and its own Memory Tree for permanent upgrades. New interactions appear when pairing any partner with the full set of Auxiliary Chips.

The console acts as a persistent hub where restored partners live in the Habitat, discoveries are catalogued in the Archive, and hardware improvements are managed through the Kernel Terminal. This setup turns every run into a step toward expanding the collection and strengthening the overall system, even when a particular attempt ends early.

Is It Worth Playing?

Do Not Eject suits players who enjoy bullet heaven roguelites with strong buildcraft and short, repeatable sessions. The automatic combat and rapid upgrade pace keep runs engaging without requiring constant input, while the partner collection and corruption scaling provide long-term goals. Because the game remains in active development with only the first cartridge fully realized in current previews, the experience centers on that initial world and its associated partner, enemy types, and boss. Those drawn to retro-inspired visuals, elemental synergies, and the satisfaction of turning simple attacks into screen-filling chaos will find the core systems rewarding right now, with more cartridges and partners planned for the complete release.
