About Double Alpha

Double Alpha - about the game

Double Alpha is a realistic practical shooting simulation that places players in the role of a competitor following the exact rules of the Ukrainian Practical Shooting Federation. This indie sports title on PC in Early Access recreates the discipline of IPSC-style stages, where success depends on balancing speed and accuracy under time pressure rather than raw marksmanship alone. The core experience centers on movement through a stage, target engagement from varied positions, and route decisions that directly affect the final hit factor score.

Gameplay

The simulation begins with ballistics modeled from the muzzle outward. The sight line sits 6.5 cm above the bore, which means bullets impact noticeably below the point of aim at close ranges such as seven meters. Zeroing distance is fixed before each run and cannot be adjusted mid-stage. Free aim allows the weapon to move independently of the camera, with the sight not locked to screen center. The weapon reaches the edge of its movement zone before the camera follows, making the time required to acquire targets part of the overall performance.

Each run limits players to four magazines. No on-screen round counter appears, so an empty weapon signals itself through the striker click. Safety rules enforce a 180-degree muzzle sector that the weapon physically cannot leave. Looking behind the shooter still keeps the muzzle pointed downrange. Disqualification requires a deliberate action rather than an accidental mouse slip. Targets follow the rulebook with A, C, and D scoring zones plus a non-scoring border. Hard cover stops scoring entirely. No-shoot penalty targets exist alongside steel poppers and plates that drop with a distinct ring. Scoring lines remain invisible on the cardboard, forcing players to aim at the center of the silhouette as they would on a real target beyond ten meters.

Game Modes

Practice stages allow repeated runs on available layouts to refine movement and engagement order. The Daily Cup introduces a single shared stage each day that appears only when the event opens. No local practice is possible beforehand. Participants receive one attempt, and the server calculates results from the event log to produce a hit factor table. This setup ensures every score reflects an actual completed run rather than client-side processing.

At launch the game includes an AR-15 in .223 across two divisions: SAS for Semi-Auto Standard and SAO for Semi-Auto Open equipped with a red dot. One range map supports both practice and the daily cup. Later additions planned include handgun divisions, Pistol Caliber Carbine, shotgun, moving targets such as swingers and bobbers, extended maps reaching 300 meters, and a loadout builder that automatically validates division compliance.

Controls and Presentation

The interface, stage briefings, and range officer voice support both Ukrainian and English. The sequence follows official procedure from briefing through walkthrough without a weapon, make ready, standby, start signal after a random delay, the run itself, and final results that break down every hit by zone alongside overall placement. The formula remains points divided by time, with an alpha worth five points, a miss costing ten, and a fault-line violation adding another ten while still counting the hit.

Is It Worth Playing?

Double Alpha suits players who want a precise recreation of practical shooting mechanics without simplification. The emphasis on realistic ballistics, limited ammunition, independent weapon movement, and strict safety enforcement creates a demanding loop that rewards route planning and efficient transitions. Those familiar with the sport or seeking a simulation that mirrors UPSF rules will find the systems align closely with match-day conditions. Early Access currently offers rifle divisions and the daily cup format, with further content scheduled. The title appeals most to enthusiasts who value accuracy in modeling over arcade-style action.
