About Evil Dark

Evil Dark - about the game

The darkness isn't just atmosphere--it's alive. Stand in it long enough and it will kill you. Light is your only defense, but it is never guaranteed.

Features:
  • Multiplayer & solo--1 to 4 players, play alone, with friends, or strangers.

  • Two paths to survival--Outlast the night or perform the ritual and leave early.

  • Light as your only weapon--Flashlights fail to protect you. Lanterns and candles hold the dark, briefly.

  • The safehouse--A persistent hub you can customize to your liking.

  • The Dark Entity--Follows you into missions. Sells what cannot be bought anywhere else.

  • The Dimming--Five tiers of escalating environmental horror, active on their distinct schedule.

  • Deep lore--A history that began centuries ago and was never meant to surface.

  • Secrets--Layered, deliberate, and mostly undiscovered.

Story:

In 1981, the Grand Chasm Company was founded as a legitimate mining operation in Montana. By 1992 they had expanded into Central Asia. In late 2018, an excavation in the Altai region broke into something that was not meant to be found--the remains and texts of homo Caelensis, an ancient human species, undocumented and extinct for nearly thirty thousand years. What was discovered was beyond a fossil record, it was a set of instructions.

By 2020, something had been opened. The knowledge was quietly sold. Most governments were aware, none intervened. For seven years, a dark arrangement was held--until it didn't. In 2027, Grand Chasm's owner was mysteriously killed outside his home, and the company dissolved. The questions that followed had no good answers.

By 2030, containment became the only option. The Federal Institute of Terrestrial Studies contracted the Warren Research Association--a private foundation with the kind of knowledge that doesn't appear on a resume--to handle what the government did not want to be publicly associated with. That is where you come in.

Objectives:

You and up to three others are dropped into a dark, abandoned location. All in the name of science & research. The objective is survival until dawn. Flashlights won't protect you. Lanterns and candles will--for a limited time. The generator that powers what little else remains needs fuel, you will find it scattered across the map. Manage it well, or be enveloped by darkness.

Enemies patrol regardless of light or dark. Most will attack the moment they see you, some are harder to kill than others, a few cannot be killed at all. Some will leave you alone until you don't leave them alone. Learning the difference is part of surviving.

There are two ways out. Wait for dawn, then reach the exit. Or gather what the map hides, perform a ritual, and call something forward. Kill it--and most of what hunts you dies with it. But the ritual is a gamble, and not everything that answers it goes down easily.

Safehouse:

Between missions, the safehouse waits. Spend what you've earned, store what you've kept, prepare for what's next. The shops are staffed by entities. One of them unique only in missions--present in the dark, selling items purchased only with currency the mission itself provides. Some call him the Dark Entity. That is as close to a name as he will ever have.

Evil Dark has three difficulties, there is a fourth--The Dimming--though calling it a difficulty is generous. Available on hard difficulty only, it follows a strict schedule, based on the host's local time. There are five tiers to it, each one stacks. By the deepest tier, two bosses spawn simultaneously, killing them no longer ends the run, all revives are disabled, damage received is doubled, and the darkness closes faster than you have learned to manage.

When The Dimming occurs, the sky does not turn red. It turns cold. A blue tint, incrementally, like the moon shifting into darkness. Fog thickens, awareness becomes imperative. The ambient sound becomes something difficult to describe and harder to ignore. All you've earned in the game will not protect you here.

Secrets:

The lore, the music, and the environments connect in ways some will never understand. There are secrets most will never find. Some require more than playing--they require understanding things outside the game itself. Some things will only ever happen once, for one player, anywhere in the world. Evil Dark rewards the obsessed.
