Good Old Cemetery is a roguelike turn-based strategy game set on PC in early access. The experience places players in the role of an amnesiac figure who awakens inside a cemetery stripped of color, surrounded by odd and unsettling inhabitants. The central drive involves repeated efforts to break free from this strange land while grappling with questions of identity, mortality, and purpose.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on three interconnected systems that define each run. Movement takes the player through the cemetery grounds, where encounters with bizarre figures trigger combat or other interactions. In fights, choices revolve around attacking to deal damage, boosting attack power further, or attempting to flee the confrontation. Success or failure leads back to the shop, where resources can be spent to increase health or damage output for the next attempt. Death resets progress in true roguelike fashion, forcing another start from the cemetery with whatever upgrades were purchased previously. The world itself presents a desaturated environment filled with humans who look distorted or flat-out unusual, adding to the sense of disorientation and the need to piece together memories amid the struggle against inevitable death.
Game Modes
At present the game operates as a single continuous experience built around repeated escape attempts. Each cycle combines exploration through movement, tactical decisions during fights, and upgrades acquired in the shop. There are no separate named modes or variations beyond this foundational structure of survival and retry loops. The emphasis remains on learning from each failure while managing limited resources to push farther on subsequent tries.
Current State
The title remains in a basic prototype phase. Only the shop for health and damage purchases, the fight options of attack, damage boost, and run, plus movement between locations have been implemented so far. Additional elements such as more enemies, non-player characters, random events, and refined user interface elements are planned for later development. The roguelike structure already supports the cycle of dying and trying again, though the overall scope stays limited to these core pillars.
Is It Worth Playing?
Good Old Cemetery suits players who enjoy stripped-down roguelike experiments and turn-based decision making in a compact package. Its current form delivers a focused loop of movement, combat choices, and shop upgrades that rewards persistence across multiple deaths. Those seeking a complete or polished experience may find the limited feature set too narrow, while anyone interested in early-stage strategy titles built around memory loss and repeated escape attempts can explore the prototype directly. The game stays available on PC through its early access distribution.
