About Kazfall

Kazfall - about the game

Kazfall is a single-player action RPG roguelite set in a fallen keep whose vaults now house hostile forces from below. Players descend into procedurally arranged depths on timed runs, managing stamina during combat and collecting resources that only partially carry over between attempts. The game emphasizes deliberate melee combat, permanent meta-progression through Essence, and covenant choices that alter difficulty and rewards. It enters Early Access in Q4 2026 with three stages of NPC-gated progression already playable.

Gameplay

Combat revolves around light and heavy attacks combined into three-hit chains that consume stamina. Players must balance offense with defense because overextending leaves no resources for blocks or dodges. A perfect block executed on the exact frame of an incoming strike negates all damage and creates an opening for counterattacks, while mistimed blocks result in guard breaks that expose the player to follow-up hits.

Enemy variety demands adaptation. Lancers rush forward aggressively, spearwraiths maintain distance and poke from range, and obelisks project protective fields that must be destroyed before surrounding threats can be engaged safely. Equipment drops include effects such as burn, freeze, thorns, lifesteal, critical hits, and retaliatory armor that damages attackers on hit.

Skills consist of 15 active abilities and 14 passive ones, with an ultimate unlocked at level 20. Chests reward players with gold that can be used to scrap unwanted items and reroll for new options within the same run. All gold and temporary items remain in the dungeon upon exit or death, reinforcing the focus on extraction rather than hoarding.

Game Modes

Each run forms a single unbroken descent against a countdown timer. There is no safe backtracking or repeated farming of floors; the clock ends the attempt if the boss is not defeated and the player does not escape. Success requires reaching and eliminating the stage boss before time expires.

Covenants offered by the Hierophant serve as optional difficulty modifiers. Accepting one imposes a curse that makes the descent harder while multiplying the final score and permanently unlocking new rooms, enemies, bosses, and gear tiers for future runs. These choices compound across play sessions as more covenants are discovered and activated.

The core loop centers on three stages of progression gated by interactions with the Vendor, Artificer, and Hierophant. Each stage expands the available content once reached, creating a layered structure where earlier descents prepare the player for deeper, more challenging content.

Progression and Economy

Essence extracted from successful or failed runs funds permanent upgrades purchased in the Antechamber before the next descent. These upgrades include stat improvements, new weapons, and previously locked gear that carries forward indefinitely. Gold, potions, and vendor stock reset with every run, so the economy rewards consistent extraction over single-run hoarding.

The Artificer provides enduring upgrades that persist across attempts, while the Vendor supplies consumables and temporary items limited to one delve. This separation creates a clear distinction between short-term survival tools and long-term character growth.

Controls and Accessibility

Full controller support includes native prompts that adapt to PlayStation, Xbox, or Steam Deck inputs. Accessibility features cover colourblind modes, UI scaling, brightness calibration, a light-flicker toggle, and the option to disable damage numbers. These options allow customization without altering core mechanics.

Is It Worth Playing?

Kazfall targets players who enjoy roguelites built around tight timing, stamina management, and meaningful run-to-run decisions rather than endless grinding. The timed descent structure and covenant system reward careful play and experimentation with builds assembled from floor drops. With Early Access planned for Q4 2026 and a year of post-launch updates focused on additional content and an endgame mode, the game offers an evolving experience shaped by player feedback. Those who appreciate deliberate combat and permanent progression systems will find the current build stable and complete enough for extended sessions, while the absence of reviews reflects its pre-release status.
