About RIFTFALL

RIFTFALL - about the game

RIFTFALL is a single-player retro-style FPS built around fast movement, heavy weapons, and handcrafted boss encounters that echo the design of 1990s shooters. The game places players in a 20-level campaign across six biomes where the core loop centers on clearing sectors, locating colored skull keys, and defeating a unique boss at the end of each stage before extracting through the Rift Gate.

Gameplay

Players sprint by default and rely on double jumps and a combat dash with invulnerability frames to navigate levels filled with moving platforms, lava crossings, and destructible scenery. Six primary weapons each include a powerful alternate fire mode, such as the Breacher shotgun's Inferno Ram that unleashes shockwaves or the Arc Rail's Singularity Lance that chains across multiple targets. Quick melee with the Gore Fist handles close encounters, while Rage Mode activates below 30 percent health to boost damage output up to 1.75 times and introduces bullet time effects.

Twenty-two permanent upgrades spread across Operator, Arsenal, and Squad trees allow persistent progression between missions. Drop credits collected from secrets fund these upgrades, which range from Nano Regen and Phase Legs to Munitions Rig and Rapid Revive. Four AI squadmates named Rook, Viper, Hex, and Nova provide support with over 500 voiced lines, including directional threat calls, multi-kill celebrations, and revival assistance when downed.

More than thirty enemy types employ varied behaviors including teleporting holograms, burrowing attacks, sentry turret deployment, and swarm tactics. Larger threats such as giant robot spiders, towering tripod walkers, and colossal sand worms appear as mid-level challenges or arena specialists. Levels incorporate procedural seeding for varied replays alongside fixed set pieces like rocket silos and crystal caverns.

Game Modes

RIFTFALL offers a single-player campaign mode that spans twenty levels from Ember Gate through Riftfall Prime. Each level consists of six forward-pressure sectors that require locating red, blue, and yellow skull keys to progress toward the Rift Gate and the boss arena beyond. No multiplayer modes are present.

Progression elements such as high-score tables, death-cam replays, and forty Steam achievements support repeated playthroughs within the campaign structure. Hidden drop credits and destructible objects encourage exploration without altering the fundamental single-player focus.

Levels and Boss Encounters

Each of the twenty levels concludes in a dedicated boss arena reached via cinematic fly-in. These handcrafted fights demand specific strategies rather than direct firepower, such as shattering crystal towers to weaken the Frostmaw or overriding a lighthouse lamp to weaponize light against the Storm Kraken. Named bosses include the Megabrain, which issues voiced taunts while players hack terminals, and the Neon Colossus, where the arena itself serves as the target for seal-breaking and core overload.

Additional named encounters feature the Iron Revenant in dead city ruins, Oculus Prime in jungle depths, and the final Riftfall Devourer. Late-game bosses introduce phase shifts that increase speed and aggression after health thresholds. Side locations include a haunted manor, Mars colony, storm lighthouse, and wild-west canyon integrated into the six-biome campaign.

Is It Worth Playing?

RIFTFALL targets players who prefer classic FPS mechanics without regenerating health, cover systems, or frequent cutscenes. Its free release model with no in-game purchases removes financial barriers, and the lightweight engine supports modest hardware. The combination of permanent upgrades, AI squad support, and varied boss puzzles creates a focused single-player experience suited to fans of fast-paced arena combat and exploration within linear levels.

With a planned 2026 release and no current user reviews available, interest depends on preference for retro-inspired design rebuilt with modern movement and alternate-fire weapons. Those seeking pure campaign progression without live-service elements will find the described systems align directly with that style.
