About Scrapstorm

Scrapstorm - about the game

Scrapstorm is a bullet-heaven roguelite that mixes action and RPG systems on PC. Every machine in the city shares one network that turned hostile roughly an hour before play begins. Cars steer themselves toward players. The third rail activates without warning. Players move on foot carrying one basic weapon and rely on teammates for survival.

Gameplay

Runs last between twenty and thirty minutes. Most early attempts end in failure. Success arrives when a player assembles a card combination that produces unexpected power. That combination can dismantle an entire district over the remaining time. Leveling happens constantly during a run. Each level presents a choice of cards. Straightforward cards deliver their stated effect. More complex cards impose a cost on the player in exchange for stronger results.

The city divides into three districts that remain active throughout every run. Surface Streets feature traffic that follows invisible signals and never slows. The Subway activates its third rails on a repeating pattern that players can study, though trains continue regardless. Rooftops involve gaps, crosswinds, ziplines, and long drops. Objectives appear in each district yet remain optional. One task requires holding an uplink for sixty seconds while nearby machines converge. Another involves cracking a supply vault and handling its guardian. A third asks players to escort a rescue pod that moves at its own pace.

Between runs, Scrap serves as currency to purchase nodes on a skill tree. The Fabricator unlocks new characters, cards, and districts. A deck builder allows removal of unwanted cards so future drafts become more focused. Ascension levels range from A0 to A5. Each tier alters a rule rather than simply increasing enemy health.

Game Modes

Co-op supports one to four players on a shared screen. Play works locally or through Steam Remote Play Together. Empty player slots receive bot teammates, so solo runs operate with three bots filling the remaining positions. After defeating a boss the entire squad participates in one shared card draft. One card becomes available for four people, and each player offers an opinion on the choice.

Four starting characters provide different entry points. The Courier, Demolisher, Lineworker, and Netrunner each begin with distinct weapons and favor particular card types. These preferences shape how runs develop once players reach higher levels and more complex card options.

Core Loop and Progression

The central loop centers on short roguelite runs that reward experimentation with card synergies. Constant leveling keeps choices frequent. Cards range from simple stat boosts to high-risk, high-reward effects that charge the player in some way. District hazards stay consistent even during boss encounters, forcing players to manage both environmental threats and the three major bosses. PRIME WARDEN controls the Streets. LINE ZERO dominates the Subway. THE ARRAY occupies the Rooftops. Each boss fight unfolds across three phases while the surrounding district continues its normal behavior.

Post-run progression adds permanence. Spending Scrap on the skill tree improves future attempts. Unlocking items through the Fabricator expands options across characters and districts. The deck builder refines the card pool so later drafts avoid repeated low-value picks. Ascension provides a structured difficulty increase that modifies rules instead of relying on raw stat inflation.

Is It Worth Playing?

Scrapstorm suits players who enjoy short, repeatable roguelite sessions with strong co-op elements. The 20-30 minute run length fits quick play sessions while still allowing meaningful card experimentation. Local or remote co-op works smoothly because bots fill gaps without disrupting the shared draft system after bosses. Character variety and district-specific hazards give each run a distinct feel once players learn the patterns. The Ascension system offers a clear path for those seeking greater challenge through rule changes rather than simple health increases. Players who prefer deliberate card selection and team coordination over pure twitch aiming will find the systems rewarding after the initial learning curve.
