About SWARMED

SWARMED - about the game

SWARMED is an action indie casual roguelite built around fast arena survival on PC. Players dual wield automatic weapons while focusing entirely on movement and positioning to outlast waves of enemies that grow more chaotic with each passing minute.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on automatic weapon fire that leaves the player free to dodge projectiles, collect experience orbs, and assemble a loadout on the fly. Each run begins with a pair of starter weapons that can be swapped or mixed for complementary roles, such as pairing a close range shotgun with a long range option. Bullet behavior changes through selectable ammo types that include piercing shots, ricochet patterns, homing projectiles, and fire effects. These modifications let each hand serve a distinct purpose within the same build.

Passive upgrades expand the arsenal beyond the guns themselves. Players deploy stationary turrets, launch homing payloads, channel electricity between clustered foes, scatter mines across the arena floor, and orbit damaging satellites around their character. Stacking these systems produces increasingly dense fields of effects that fill the screen as runs progress. Enemy types add pressure through varied behaviors: fast rushers close distance quickly, ranged attackers blanket the area with projectiles, durable tanks absorb heavy fire, and support units shield the larger swarm.

Boss encounters punctuate the action at regular intervals. Defeating every boss completes the standard run, after which the option to continue appears if the current build remains viable.

Game Modes

Standard runs follow a structured sequence of escalating waves that culminate in a final boss fight. Success grants access to new unlockable content for future attempts. Endless Mode removes the boss limit and challenges players to survive for as long as their loadout holds together against continuously intensifying swarms.

Both modes operate within the same core systems, allowing direct comparison of build strength across finite and open ended sessions. Progression carries forward through permanent unlocks that expand starting options and upgrade pools without altering the fundamental survival focus.

Build Customization and Progression

Each run offers fresh opportunities to combine weapon pairs with distinct ammo behaviors and layer multiple passive systems. Unlockable characters provide different starting points, while additional starter weapons and dual wield combinations increase variety over repeated play. Ammo types, passive attacks, stat upgrades, and boss exclusive modifiers further differentiate builds. Temporary pickups appear during runs to offer short term advantages that can turn the tide in critical moments.

The progression system rewards experimentation. Players gradually access more tools that encourage mixing short and long range options or layering area denial effects with direct damage sources. The result is a wide range of viable strategies that scale in complexity as more content unlocks.

Presentation and Interface

The entire experience uses a retro computer terminal aesthetic. Enemies appear as hostile glyphs, upgrades arrive formatted as system files such as .dll, .sys, .exe, and .bat extensions, and passive abilities function like background processes. This consistent visual and thematic framing reinforces the sense of operating within a simulated environment under constant threat.

Controls remain simple and responsive to support the emphasis on positioning and timing. The interface keeps focus on the arena while clearly displaying active upgrades and incoming threats.

Is It Worth Playing?

SWARMED suits players who enjoy roguelite arena survival games that emphasize movement and build crafting over direct aiming. The automatic weapons shift attention to dodging and strategic placement, while the dual wield and upgrade systems reward creative combinations. Those who appreciate escalating chaos from stacked effects and the choice between structured runs or open ended survival will find consistent depth in the available systems.

The game delivers a focused single player experience centered on repeated attempts to refine loadouts against increasingly dense enemy groups. Its indie scale and casual accessibility pair with action oriented mechanics that scale in intensity, making it a strong fit for short or extended sessions depending on the chosen mode.
