Game Recommendations

A collection of articles answering the question of what to play. These are not algorithmic rankings but editorial picks for a specific situation: a set budget, a free weekend, a console bought last week, or a sale currently running.

A ranking orders the whole catalogue by one measurable value: scores, sales or the size of a discount. A recommendation piece does something else, because it takes in context no metric can hold: how much time you have, how much you want to spend, what you play on, and whether you are after something close to a title you have just finished. Neither replaces the other, they answer different questions.

From two things combined: price data and discount history gathered from over 40 stores, and the judgement of the person writing. The data says what is cheap right now and how far it has fallen before, and a human decides whether a given game actually fits the situation the piece describes. A low price on its own is not enough to recommend something.

You get the most out of these by opening the page of a specific game from a round up and checking its price and its all time low. Pieces are written at a moment when a given offer was attractive, and prices move daily. If a title appeals but the price no longer does, set an alert on it: we check offers every five minutes.
