About À Deriva

À Deriva - about the game

À Deriva is a casual simulation game that runs quietly on your PC desktop. It places a small fishing scene above the taskbar or expands it into a full-screen wallpaper behind your icons. The experience centers on a lone fisherman who casts a line and reels in catches without constant player input, while the world around him shifts through different Brazilian waterways and coastal areas.

Gameplay

The core loop relies on passive progression. The fisherman handles casting and reeling on his own, with fish biting at irregular intervals. A single click during a bite improves the catch quality when the player happens to notice it, but the fish enters the hold regardless. Locations begin in the shallow white beaches and waters of the Araguaia river before moving onward to the dark waters of the Rio Negro, the flooded forests of Furnas, the coast of Santa Catarina, and finally the open sea near Fernando de Noronha, where larger specimens appear.

Boat upgrades follow naturally once the hold fills. Sales of the daily catch fund progression from a simple canoe through a dinghy, speedboat, and trawler up to a full ocean-going vessel. Better bait improves the quality of what appears on the line. Weather systems change independently, bringing rain that arrives gradually, storms that rock the boat and light the sky, or nights when the moon turns red. Each condition influences which fish are likely to bite.

Wildlife appears at random moments. A caiman may eye the hook, a giant otter might snatch larger fish, a river dolphin can herd shoals closer, or a jaguar may rest on the sand. These encounters add visual variety without requiring direct interaction. Occasional stork deliveries carry parcels that yield hats when clicked in time. The hats can be equipped on the fisherman or listed on the Steam Community Market in varying conditions from tattered to new.

Game Modes

The game operates as a single continuous simulation rather than discrete modes. The monthly championship serves as the main structured element, where every catch contributes points to a global leaderboard. The top position at the end of each month receives a special celestial hat unavailable through normal means or trading. No separate competitive or cooperative modes exist beyond this recurring leaderboard challenge.

Progression through locations and boat tiers functions as the primary advancement system. Players move forward by selling catches and reinvesting in equipment and bait, with weather and wildlife providing natural variation in each session. The taskbar format allows the simulation to continue in the background while other work happens on screen.

Progression and Atmosphere

Atmosphere builds through automatic environmental changes. Rain develops slowly across the scene, storms introduce movement and sound, and night cycles include the occasional red moon. These elements tie directly to fishing results, as different weather favors different species. The sequence of rivers, flooded forests, and open ocean creates a sense of gradual travel without manual navigation.

Hat collection adds a light customization layer. Stork deliveries appear unpredictably, and successful clicks grant wearable items that range in condition. The market option lets players trade extras, though the focus remains on personal use for the fisherman figure. No energy systems or timers interrupt the flow, and the simulation stays contained on the local machine.

Is It Worth Playing?

À Deriva suits players who enjoy relaxed, low-intervention simulation experiences. The passive fishing and background operation make it suitable for running alongside other tasks, with occasional clicks providing small improvements during active watching. The progression through boats and locations, combined with the monthly leaderboard, gives a gentle long-term goal without pressure. Those seeking active control or frequent decisions may find the hands-off nature limiting, while fans of ambient desktop companions or simple fishing loops will appreciate the consistent, ad-free presentation and self-contained design.
