About Bottom Dollar

Bottom Dollar - about the game

Bottom Dollar is a strategy indie casual game centered on underwater treasure hunting in a roguelike format for PC. Players manage limited air and time while collecting valuables to meet escalating harbor payments, all while navigating hazards below the surface.

Gameplay

The core loop revolves around short, high-stakes dives from a charter boat. Each descent starts with a metal detector guiding the way toward buried items. Digging consumes air quickly, and greater depths shorten the available time further. Hazards include sharks that can snatch collected bags and trawlers whose nets sweep through the water without regard for divers. Success means surfacing with enough value to pay the current target, after which the harbor raises the next requirement. Failure ends the run, though some items remain below regardless.

Between dives, shopping becomes the key to extending runs. Gear and trinkets carry deliberate drawbacks that force meaningful choices. Twin tanks compete with a rebreather for air management. A scooter adds speed at the cost of added weight. A jeweler's loupe boosts item value while weakening detector performance. These trade-offs shape each diver's capabilities rather than providing straightforward power increases. The result is a system where builds emerge from conflicting options across multiple slots.

Game Modes

Structured play consists of five locations, each containing four dives before progressing further. Every fourth dive introduces a challenge variant drawn from twelve possible modifiers that alter conditions. Completing the sequence unlocks endless mode for continued runs without fixed targets. Seven distinct dive site types support variety, such as marinas that allow hull scrubbing when primary digging yields little. Real caves appear in certain areas and require a line reel for safe navigation.

Six charter boats each alter the starting conditions of a run, adding another layer to planning. The game includes a tutorial designed to explain mechanics directly through play rather than lengthy text.

Progression and Customization

Trinkets number fifty-five across four rarity levels and occupy five slots. Thirty gear pieces fill six slots with frequent incompatibilities that reward careful selection. These elements combine with the boat choices and site variety to create distinct run experiences. The focus stays on building a functional diver suited to the current targets and hazards rather than collecting generic improvements.

Is It Worth Playing?

Bottom Dollar appeals to players who enjoy roguelike resource management and deliberate trade-offs in a single-player setting. The underwater theme and air-time constraints create tension different from typical roguelikes. With the game listed as coming soon, those interested in strategy indie titles on PC can wishlist it for future release. The verified features emphasize replayability through modifiers, site types, and build variety without relying on external content. Individuals drawn to short, repeatable sessions with clear failure states and incremental progress will find the systems align with that preference.
