Clanker Town is an action strategy indie game on PC where players fend off waves of angry household robots that have turned against their owner after one too many insults. The core experience centers on protecting an old PC in a trailer using improvised weapons while managing escalating threats from everyday smart devices.
Gameplay
The action begins immediately with a lawnmower minigun facing down thousands of robots in the yard. A cranky old modem named DIAL-UP throttles the incoming wifi signal to control the flow, letting enemies arrive in manageable groups at first before the numbers climb into the tens of thousands. Players collect scrap from defeated robots, which a yard vacuum gathers and a scrap dealer sells from a pickup truck. That cash funds upgrades along a single large Redneckology tree that expands from basic tools into a full arsenal.
Weapons include a nail gun that pings and ricochets, a double-barrel shotgun firing glowing buckshot, a spud cannon, bottle-rocket launcher, shop-vac reverser, wood chipper, chainsaw, deer rifle, and throwable hubcaps used as shields. Throwables range from firecracker bricks that keep popping in crowds to moonshine molotovs and EMP grenades. Yard defenses feature nail sentries, a deer stand, roof-mounted bottle rockets, a propane tank slingshot between trees, and a rideable mower for charging into groups. The shop adds automated presses for ammo and a tool shed that repairs the PC during fights. Every gun feels distinct through sound, visuals, and behavior, such as the minigun spinning up and glowing hotter with sustained fire.
Game Modes
Raids take place on the DIAL-UP map, where each successive one grows larger than the last. The campaign spans six rings guarded by bosses including the Mega-Roomba, Fridge Mothership, Router Overlord, Big Screen, Grillmaster, and HOMEBRAIN Mk II. Each boss requires new tactics like dodging charges, jumping shockwaves, or prioritizing support units before the main target. Clearing rings expands the playable area until the finale against HOMEBRAIN. After the credits roll, an endless raid continues indefinitely with ever-increasing pressure.
The free demo covers the entire first ring and its boss along with a high-intensity preview of a fully upgraded lawnmower minigun against a massive horde. Progress earned in the demo transfers directly to the full game.
Progression and Features
Over a full campaign players scrap millions of robots while keeping the PC alive. Failure ends the current raid. The upgrade tree supports long-term investment, eventually unlocking permanent access to powerful starting weapons. The game runs on a bold comic-book art style that can be toggled off, features voiced characters with southern rock and banjo metal music, and includes remappable controls plus adjustable UI scaling. It offers 34 achievements, cartoon-style robot combat without blood or gore, and no microtransactions or required accounts.
Is It Worth Playing?
Clanker Town suits players who enjoy single-player horde defense combined with resource management and a deep but focused upgrade system. The free demo lets anyone test the first ring and a massive late-game scenario before committing, with all earned progress carrying forward. Those drawn to casual action-strategy titles with humorous themes and no ongoing costs will find a complete experience built around one core loop of defense, collection, and expansion.
