About Curved Space

Curved Space - about the game

Curved Space is an action indie twin-stick shooter for PC that reimagines classic arcade shooting in a fully three-dimensional environment built around curved surfaces and shifting gravity. Players control a ship that navigates asteroids, space stations, and other intergalactic stages where the floor becomes the wall and the horizon falls away, forcing constant adaptation to the terrain. Bullets follow the curved landscape while enemies swarm from all angles, creating a fast-paced loop of movement, positioning, and firepower that rewards precise control and quick reactions.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on twin-stick controls adapted to warped 3D spaces. Movement and aiming feel familiar at first, yet the geometry changes everything. Ships climb vertical surfaces, flip to the underside of platforms, and circle around structures that twist like a Mobius strip. Enemy projectiles hug the same surfaces, so cover and line of sight shift with every turn. Power-ups scattered across each stage provide new weapons and temporary upgrades that alter firing patterns and add overdrive effects for short bursts of heightened damage.

Weapon variety keeps encounters fresh. Standard lasers give way to flamethrowers that sweep arcs of fire along curved walls and even unconventional tools such as weed wackers that clear clusters of smaller threats. Collecting upgrades during runs builds temporary strength, while the branching campaign lets players select one of three distinct protagonist versions, each with its own narrative path and slight mechanical differences. Boss encounters punctuate the action with large-scale targets that demand sustained focus and pattern recognition across multiple phases.

Game Modes

Campaign mode delivers the main story-driven experience across multiple stages filled with branching choices. Players fight through waves of cosmic invaders while unlocking new areas and upgrades. The three protagonist paths alter dialogue, mission flow, and ending sequences without changing the fundamental shooting mechanics.

Arena mode presents over sixty randomized challenges drawn from campaign encounters. Each challenge imposes specific conditions and time limits, with local leaderboards tracking performance. Survival mode escalates difficulty through successive waves, introducing tougher enemy types and environmental hazards as the run progresses. Endless mode combines randomized campaign segments with extra objectives that force adaptation on the fly. Daily Run offers a single shared challenge each day, resetting scores for fresh competition on the global or local boards.

Visuals and Audio

Stages emphasize striking, gravity-defying backdrops that highlight the curved geometry. Bright neon accents and clean particle effects keep the action readable even when dozens of projectiles fill the screen. The soundtrack draws from synthwave artists including Scandroid, 3Force, and Fury Weekend through a partnership with FiXT Neon, delivering pulsing electronic tracks that match the high-energy pace without overpowering the sound effects of weapons and explosions.

Is It Worth Playing?

Curved Space suits players who enjoy arcade-style shooters with a strong emphasis on spatial awareness and geometry over traditional flat arenas. The unique movement system and weapon variety provide consistent engagement across the campaign and additional modes. Reception highlights the satisfying core action and inventive level design, though some note that the story elements feel secondary to the shooting. The game remains available as a complete package with no ongoing seasonal content or major post-launch expansions required for the full experience. Those seeking short, replayable sessions or leaderboard competition will find the most value in the varied modes, while newcomers to curved-space shooters can start with the campaign for a guided introduction to the mechanics.
