DoloTwin is a simulation, racing, adventure, massively multiplayer, and sports game in early access on PC that recreates the full 7,400 square kilometer region of South Tyrol in northern Italy at true 1:1 scale inside Unreal Engine 5.
Gameplay
The core experience centers on driving real mountain passes and roads using actual elevation and geographical data. Players control vehicles with arcade-style physics that emphasize accessibility over strict simulation. Switching between first-person and third-person views works at any moment, whether behind the wheel or on foot after exiting a car. The open world allows free exploration of valleys, peaks, and towns, with the entire map available immediately rather than through progressive unlocks.
Integration with home fitness equipment adds a distinct layer. The companion app connects smart trainers, bicycles, and treadmills so physical effort translates directly into in-game movement on climbs and routes. Standard keyboard, mouse, or controller inputs remain available for those who prefer traditional play. The two-developer team built the map, driving systems, and multiplayer infrastructure first, leaving many towns in early blockout form that receive incremental updates with detailed buildings and additional content over time.
Game Modes
Players can tackle structured quests that send them across the region or focus on time trials along winding pass roads to beat personal or shared records. Free roam supports relaxed driving and on-foot wandering without objectives. Multiplayer lets users share the same map online, meet for joint drives, or enter competitive challenges. Logins route through the development forum with optional direct Steam account connection.
These options blend single-player pacing with optional group interaction. No separate factions or seasonal events appear in the current build, keeping emphasis on the persistent shared world and personal progression through driving skill or exploration.
Open World and Exploration
The 1:1 recreation prioritizes accurate terrain over stylized fantasy. Real mountain ranges, valleys, and road layouts form the backbone, giving drivers authentic elevation changes and route choices. Stepping out of vehicles at any point turns the experience into pedestrian exploration of the same geography. Future additions mentioned by the developers include planes and boats to expand travel options beyond roads.
Because the map launched complete, players encounter consistent geography from the first session. Placeholder visuals in settlements contrast with the finished terrain and road network, and ongoing work focuses on replacing those assets while adding new quests and vehicle types.
Is It Worth Playing?
DoloTwin suits players who value large-scale realistic open-world driving combined with the freedom to explore on foot in a genuine geographic setting. The fitness hardware support targets those who want physical engagement alongside digital travel, particularly on real-world routes like those used in cycling events. Multiplayer remains functional for social drives or challenges, and the full map avoids the common early-access practice of gated areas.
Current limitations include many towns still in basic states and a small development team handling progressive polish. Those drawn to the concept of a living digital twin of South Tyrol, arcade racing on authentic passes, or integrated fitness will find the foundation already playable and expanding. The project stays true to its indie origins, delivering the core map and systems while visuals and extras continue to improve.
