About Doomsday: M.A.D.

Doomsday: M.A.D. - about the game

Doomsday: M.A.D. is a nuclear strategy simulation game for PC that places players in a world where nations develop across centuries and conflicts can escalate to atomic destruction. The title combines simulation elements with strategic decision making, allowing users to observe autonomous nations or step in to direct one through economic growth, diplomacy and warfare that spans industrial to orbital eras.

Gameplay

Nations emerge on procedurally generated land with distinct names, languages, regimes and rulers. Towns expand district by district while farms, sawmills, mines, oil wells and uranium mines extract resources from actual deposits. Railways and shipping routes transport food, wood, ore, oil and uranium between locations, supporting trade agreements and alliance pacts. Governments experience coups, revolutions and secessions as rulers change over time.

Players can assume control of a single nation to manage taxes, negotiate disarmament accords, establish colonies and direct military campaigns that feature fronts, trenches, supply lines and amphibious landings. Alternatively, the god mode permits direct intervention with events such as volcanoes, tsunamis or meteor showers. Custom maps allow full control over terrain relief, water bodies, forests, biomes, resource placement and initial nation setups. A chronicle records every major event for later review.

Production chains matter in sustained conflicts. Steelworks, refineries and arms factories convert raw materials into weapons, with nations that maintain complete chains paying reduced costs. Disruption of key infrastructure like bridges or tankers interrupts supply and raises expenses for the affected side.

Game Modes

War Mode simulates an escalating crisis that advances through DEFCON levels from 5 to 1, unlocking additional weapon options at each stage. Participants raise battalions, construct tanks and artillery, deploy fighters, bombers and drones, and assemble naval fleets including destroyers, cruisers, battleships, missile ships, submarines and carriers. Strategic sites and bases become objectives, and observers can watch two AI nations resolve the conflict independently.

The Duel restricts play to two nations on a shared generated map. Each side starts with a headquarters, missile silos, rocket batteries, missile defenses, radar and tank factories. Victory requires either destroying the enemy headquarters or reducing its population below 15 percent. Success depends on saturating defenses before delivering heavy warheads.

The Living World supports two to eight nations that operate without direct player input. These nations build infrastructure, form alliances, trade resources and engage in full-scale wars complete with mobilization, supply management and peace treaties. The simulation continues across eras until nuclear exchanges occur or external intervention halts the process.

Destruction and Weapons

Sixteen distinct weapons range from conventional rocket salvos and MIRVs to the Tsar Bomba, an orbital beam weapon, antimatter devices and a black hole generator. Explosions produce volumetric mushroom clouds and blast waves that topple structures, halt against mountain ranges and leave craters that sever railways and roads. Affected districts burn, forests flatten and ships sink. Residual radiation creates dead zones, and large exchanges trigger nuclear winter effects across the map.

Sound design incorporates real recorded effects, including air-raid sirens and blasts timed to arrive at the speed of sound, paired with music that intensifies according to rising tension levels.

Is It Worth Playing?

Doomsday: M.A.D. targets players who enjoy detailed strategy simulations that blend nation management, logistics and high-stakes nuclear decision making. The combination of autonomous world simulation with direct control options provides replayability through different map sizes, from small islands to a 131-kilometer supercontinent across nine procedural types. Those interested in observing long-term geopolitical evolution or testing specific military doctrines will find the systems rewarding.

The game remains in development with a planned release in Q4 2026. No player reviews or aggregate ratings exist at this stage, and no post-launch updates or seasonal content have been confirmed. Individuals seeking a focused experience around nuclear strategy and living-world simulation may find the described mechanics align with their preferences once available.
