About Full Count Club

Full Count Club - about the game

Full Count Club is a strategy indie sports game that fuses baseball with poker mechanics on PC. Players build hands from a visible shoe of cards to determine outcomes on the field, where stronger poker combinations produce bigger hits and advances. The core loop centers on reading the deck and deciding actions at each at-bat without hidden rolls or automation.

Gameplay

Every at-bat draws seven cards from the shoe. Players choose among three actions to shape the hand. Pocketing a card sets it aside for safety, allowing it to carry forward to the next batter and build toward stronger combinations over time. Fouling off discards the unpocketed cards and draws replacements, limited to two uses per at-bat. Swinging locks in the remaining hand to resolve the play on the field. The better the poker hand formed, the greater the result, ranging from modest advances to home runs.

The shoe remains fully visible at all times, displaying every remaining card by rank and suit along with the paytable and exact odds for each possible hand. Strike cards appear as dead spots that occupy hand positions and complicate straights or flushes. Different eras adjust the shoe differently, with wildcards available in one mode and ability men providing targeted removals or edges in the other. Reading the composition and planning pockets becomes the central skill, as every decision affects the immediate swing and future at-bats.

Game Modes

Two distinct campaigns deliver the same batting system across different eras and team-building approaches. The Longball follows a 1990s road trip across fifteen cities. Players assemble a nine-man lineup under a salary cap on the Sign Your Nine screen, unlocking ability men by winning series in each city. These men, ranging from rookies like Table Setter and Wheels to legends such as Big Country and the Professor, grant unique edges on the shoe that can extend to the following batter. Thirteen cities impose house rules that alter available hands, remove suits, or thin the deck.

The Circuit returns to 1920s dead-ball baseball on an eight-town barnstorming tour. Success in each town adds to the purse and awards wildcards that aid later games. Every contest generates a period-style newspaper write-up, and an organist provides musical accompaniment during tense moments. Both modes emphasize single-player progression without automated resolutions.

Team Building and Progression

Lineup construction demands careful choices under constraints. In the Longball, limited funds force trade-offs between affordable rookies who set the table and expensive legends whose auras influence the next hitter. Placement in the batting order matters because certain abilities carry forward. City-specific house rules reward tailored lineups that exploit or mitigate the local restrictions. The Circuit shifts focus to collecting wildcards through wins, gradually strengthening the available tools without a salary system.

Legends stand out for their broader impact. Their effects apply beyond a single at-bat, encouraging strategic slotting to maximize value across the order. This layer adds depth to roster decisions and rewards planning for the full series rather than isolated games.

Is It Worth Playing?

Full Count Club appeals to players who enjoy deliberate strategy and transparent systems in a sports context. The visible shoe and poker-hand resolution create a skill-based experience where preparation and reading the deck determine results. Fans of baseball simulations or poker variants will recognize familiar elements reimagined without dice or hidden probabilities. The solo-developed structure keeps the scope focused on two eras and one core mechanic, delivering consistent depth rather than breadth. Those seeking a thoughtful, single-player hybrid that rewards repeated play through lineup experimentation and hand management will find the game a strong match for its niche. Wishlisting supports continued development by the creator.
