This action platformer blends platforming with exciting puzzles integrated into each level, where Hocus battles over 30 different monsters including dragons, imps, ghosts, demons, four huge bosses, and more using a standard magic spell. Potions scattered throughout grant temporary powers like rapid shooting, higher jumps, teleportation, and energy blasts to overcome foes. Smooth 360-degree scrolling and parallax backgrounds deliver fluid movement, while graphics and enemies shift completely after every two levels for constant variety. Players pick skill levels, save progress, and use cheat passwords to tailor the run toward wizard mastery or face Terexin's deadly final test. The other option is not so favorable. After every two levels of play the level graphics, background and enemies completely change, giving this game unparalleled variety. Hocus Pocus is a action platform game, with exciting puzzles built into each level's structure.

Hocus is armed with a standard magic spell (he's not yet a full Wizard, after all), but he can find several potions that give him a temporary boost of magical energy. There are potions that give Hocus the ability to shoot rapidly, jump higher, teleport and fire a devastating energy blast, among others.
