About Neon & Bones

Neon & Bones - about the game

Neon & Bones is a strategy simulation adventure game set on PC where players manage a Las Vegas casino during the late 1950s. The core experience revolves around nightly decisions on how to divide the casino's earnings among taxes, the Chicago Family, the crew, and personal gains while navigating loyalty, heat from authorities, and long-term empire building.

Gameplay

Each evening the count room closes and a single choice determines the split of that night's take. Declaring the full amount satisfies the Gaming Control Board but reduces personal profit. Sending a portion east keeps Chicago satisfied yet invites scrutiny if the courier notices shortfalls. Paying the crew maintains loyalty on the floor, while skimming for the pocket risks discovery and growing FBI files. These decisions directly influence crew morale, Family patience, and external pressure that escalates across play sessions.

Players expand beyond the initial Neon & Bones property by acquiring motels, bars, and laundries that serve as fronts. Controlling stakes in rival casinos grants access to full floors for upgrades and operations. Empty lots on the Boulevard can be developed into new venues through construction phases that involve foremen, unions, inspectors, and environmental factors such as sandstorms before a grand opening. An empire of multiple casinos generates substantial weekly revenue provided the daily choices keep all parties aligned.

Crew members carry individual stories involving debts, family ties, and ambitions that create leverage points. Events such as sit-downs with out-of-town bosses, raids following major incidents, Senate hearings, and Commission votes require careful navigation. Clues from the floor, bar, and street help identify informants, while heists demand accurate accusations to avoid handing evidence to the wrong person. The Sunday newspaper reports actual events, feeding back into the growing file and reputation.

Game Modes

The single-player story campaign spans seven chapters from 1957 to 1961 across four eras of Las Vegas development. A separate 30-day Season mode offers a shorter standalone experience focused on rapid empire growth and nightly splits. Three difficulty levels adjust the balance of heat, crew demands, and revenue targets, with optional challenges that impose extra constraints on spending or loyalty management.

Multiplayer options include Quick War, where participants compete on the same Strip layout with identical starting conditions until only one casino remains operational. Shared House assigns distinct roles within a single casino, such as count room oversight, floor management, or fixer duties, requiring coordination among players. Shared Strip lets each participant operate an independent casino on a shared map, allowing competition for properties alongside cooperative assistance on joint projects.

Story and Progression

Progression follows a narrative arc that begins with limited control over the count room and advances toward potential leadership of the entire Strip or complete independence. Multiple endings reflect paths such as becoming the dominant figure in Las Vegas, remaining a respected operator, exiting the Family through legitimate channels, selling assets, or stepping away entirely. Successful completion unlocks the option to continue as a successor character with inherited assets and ongoing challenges.

Supporting systems track a personal FBI file that expands with visible evidence of skims and alliances. Nevada's Black Book mechanics force operations through fronts when direct involvement becomes restricted. Random events involving high-rolling patrons, local officials, and investigative reporters add variability to nightly outcomes without altering the central decision loop.

Is It Worth Playing?

Neon & Bones suits players who enjoy management simulations that combine resource allocation with narrative consequences and strategic empire building. The nightly split mechanic creates consistent tension between short-term gains and long-term stability, supported by crew dynamics and historical Las Vegas context. A free demo covers the first chapter with up to four in-game weeks of play, allowing direct evaluation of the core loop before committing to the full campaign or multiplayer sessions.

The game offers three difficulty settings and optional challenges for varied replayability, along with a 30-day Season mode for quicker sessions. Availability on PC with full English and Czech support makes it accessible for those interested in single-player stories or cooperative and competitive multiplayer formats. Those drawn to casino management layered with mafia intrigue and choice-driven progression will find the verified systems rewarding, while players seeking faster action or purely competitive multiplayer may prefer other titles.
