About Plough

Plough - about the game

Plough is a cosy low-poly simulation game set in an Alpine village where players drive snowploughs to keep roads clear during endless snowfall. The core loop centres on pushing and shaping persistent snow with different machines, each affecting how and where the snow ends up on driveways, roads and banks. Snow stays in place once moved, so every pass changes the landscape and can affect neighbours or future jobs. The game runs on PC and emphasises relaxed, deliberate driving over speed or combat.

Gameplay

Players select from a board of jobs at the depot and complete specific goals while managing the blade angle, height and position on one of eight machines. A salt plough spreads material along roads, a rotary throws snow up to fourteen metres, a jet blower clears wider paths, V-ploughs and wing ploughs direct snow to one side, a tow plough follows behind and a sweeper finishes surfaces. Each machine places snow differently, requiring players to plan routes so that cleared roads stay open and unwanted banks do not block access points. The village contains sixteen named neighbours who react when their driveways are buried or when heaps are left nearby. Some residents speak directly about the work, while others create small changes such as children turning snow piles into sledging hills or a farm dog running alongside the fence. The in-game radio station K-ALP 98.4 plays country songs, news updates and villager calls that reference recent jobs. Time of day and weather shift across morning, midday, dusk and night, with street lamps, lit windows and swinging lanterns adding to the atmosphere. Full controller support is included along with options to adjust camera shake and whiteout intensity.

Game Modes

Ten jobs provide structured tasks with clear objectives, and a Free plough mode lets players choose any time of day or weather condition without goals. Specific jobs include guiding the Postbus through light snow, first snow, storm conditions and night runs; clearing eight plots on the Oberdorf green for a Christmas market; hitching a trailer to transport a felled spruce tree without damage; ploughing a forest track, waiting for timber to be sawn and leading a lorry down before dark; locating five switch boxes during a power cut with a passenger; and plugging in five circuits of coloured lights before villagers gather. New jobs are added weekly based on player suggestions. Free plough removes the job structure entirely so players can experiment with any machine, weather or time setting across the village, forest, pass and small ski resort area.

Controls and Progression

Controls introduce one at a time during an initial tutorial with Mira explaining the truck. Blade angle directs snow left or right, blade height spares driveways or leaves snow on the road, and straight pushes build larger heaps that can be relocated. Jobs pay based on unmet goals, encouraging players to balance multiple tasks in a single run. The persistent snow system means earlier choices directly influence later ones, such as walling in a neighbour or creating a clear path for the bus. Settings allow players to tune visual effects for comfort during longer sessions.

Is It Worth Playing?

Plough suits players who enjoy methodical simulation and environmental interaction rather than fast action or competitive elements. The persistent snow and reactive villagers create a living village that changes with each session, while the variety of machines and weekly job additions keep the experience fresh after launch. Those who appreciate cosy, low-pressure tasks with clear cause-and-effect mechanics will find the gameplay satisfying. The game is scheduled for release in December 2026 and remains in active development with community input shaping new content. Availability on PC with controller support makes it accessible for relaxed play sessions focused on careful snow management and village life.
