About Sandkeeper

Sandkeeper - about the game

Sandkeeper is an indie casual simulation game centered on the quiet creation of sand art in glass bottles. Players pour colored sand one grain at a time, shape layers through simple interactions, and build a personal collection inside a inherited cottage. The experience draws from real sand physics without any competition or failure states, letting each session unfold at whatever pace feels right.

Gameplay

The core loop revolves around filling bottles with thirty available sand colors. Pouring builds initial layers, while leaning the bottle causes those layers to slope naturally. A stick poke guides the sand downward, and tapping the glass settles everything into place. Small objects such as shells, pebbles, sea glass, or coal can be dropped in to add detail before the bottle is corked and named.

Each completed bottle joins others on a growing window sill. The game tracks fifty-nine bottle shapes and supports decoration through added elements. Any finished piece can be photographed or shared with a friend via a simple code that requires no account or online connection. Light inside the cottage shifts with an in-game clock, so dawn scenes appear in morning light and midnight views stay dark.

Beyond bottles, two additional creation tools sit ready in the house. Sand boards allow peeling and pouring to form patterns, while a round sand tray accepts pen drawings that a wheel transforms into twelve-fold flower designs. These options expand the ways sand can be used without introducing new goals or pressure.

Game Modes

The primary activity is bottle crafting, supported by the grandfather's book of forty-eight pages. Each page represents a specific place at a particular hour, complete with suggested sand colors and three handwritten lines. Completing a page brings a keepsake home, such as an oar, paper lantern, jar of wild flowers, or carved loon. Fifty-two keepsakes in total appear as progress continues.

The cottage itself functions as a second area of focus. Shelves unlock with use, and the space accepts customization through wallpaper, paint, curtains, rugs, hooks for keepsakes, and frames for photographs. An entryway and porch offer further decoration spots, including a stove, a plant that needs occasional watering, and six old books available to read in a favorite chair. A gull may visit the window and a mouse can appear under the desk, adding subtle life to the setting.

These elements combine into one continuous, single-player experience rather than separate competitive or timed modes. The thirty quiet achievements reflect observations the house makes during play, such as noticing certain arrangements or completed pages.

Story and Atmosphere

A short narrative frames the activity. The player inherits a cottage, a book of forty-eight unfinished places, and the pages left blank by a grandfather who once filled bottles for each location he visited. Scenes range from a quay at low tide to hills over Kyoto on New Year's Eve or a shore on Sanibel at dawn. Every illustration in the book draws itself while the player watches, one line and grain at a time.

Sounds play in real time with each action, from the pour of sand to the tap of glass. The tide in bottle scenes never repeats exactly the same way twice, reinforcing the sense of personal, one-of-a-kind results. Nothing requires purchase, and no timers or scores appear at any point.

Is It Worth Playing?

Sandkeeper suits players who enjoy slow, creative simulation without external demands. The absence of currency, competition, or loss conditions makes it a low-pressure choice for short sessions or longer afternoons. The combination of sand physics, bottle variety, and cottage decoration provides steady variety within a calm framework.

Those drawn to relaxing creative tools and gentle progression through a personal space will find consistent appeal in the thirty sand colors, fifty-nine bottle shapes, and expanding collection of keepsakes. The game remains available on PC with no additional purchases required to access its full content.
