About Silver

Silver - about the game

Silver is an action RPG released in 1999 for PC that places players in control of David, a young knight on a mission to rescue his wife and stop the sorcerer Silver from dominating the land of Jarrah. The story unfolds through a linear quest that requires gathering allies, collecting eight artifacts, and battling through dangerous environments filled with the sorcerer's followers. Combat relies on real-time action rather than menus, with the mouse directing sword strikes and other attacks in a way that emphasizes timing and positioning.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on exploration across detailed locations, conversations with dozens of characters, and frequent real-time fights. Players move David through top-down environments while recruiting companions who bring distinct skills to the party, which can include up to three members at once. Combat stands out because attacks are executed by moving the mouse in specific directions to slash, lunge, or block, turning the cursor into an extension of the sword arm. Magic spells, projectiles, and even siege weapons follow the same mouse-driven system, creating fluid encounters against demons, dragons, and other creatures.

Progression involves mastering these controls alongside character abilities. Allies such as the archer Sekune or the martial artist Cagen join at different points and contribute unique strengths during fights. Players also manage equipment and spells acquired along the way, which enhance both melee and magical options. The fixed camera and prerendered backgrounds keep the focus on the action while maintaining a consistent visual style throughout the journey.

Game Modes

Silver offers only a single-player campaign. The entire experience consists of following the main quest line from start to finish, with no separate multiplayer options or additional modes available. All gameplay revolves around advancing through the story, recruiting allies, locating the required artifacts, and confronting the central antagonist in a continuous narrative sequence.

Story and World

The narrative follows David as he travels across hostile territories to disrupt Silver's pact with the god Apocalypse. Encounters with over fifty characters provide context and occasional assistance, though some prove hostile. The world features varied environments packed with enemies and secrets, all tied directly to the central goal of rescuing the captured women and restoring order. Dialogue and voice work add personality to the companions and villagers met along the path.

Is It Worth Playing?

Silver suits players who enjoy classic action RPGs with an emphasis on direct combat control. The mouse-based sword system remains distinctive and rewarding once mastered, particularly in close-quarters battles. Its single-player focus delivers a complete story-driven adventure without distractions from online elements or seasonal content. The game runs on modern PCs through current digital platforms and receives occasional mentions for its innovative controls and character interactions. Those seeking fast-paced, gesture-driven fights in a fantasy setting will find the mechanics hold up well, while fans of party-based progression and artifact collection will appreciate the structured quest. Availability on PC makes it accessible for anyone interested in revisiting late-1990s action RPG design.
