About The Archive Project

The Archive Project - about the game

The Archive Project is a strategy indie game that blends card collecting with idle progression mechanics on PC. Players take on the role of a young archivist in a gothic fantasy setting, where building and refining a personal collection drives city development and long-term growth.

Gameplay

Core play revolves around opening booster packs that contain six cards each. These cards come in five variants: Normal, Shiny, Full Art, Gold, or Cosmic. Duplicates convert automatically into Dust, while new acquisitions contribute to album completion and permanent bonuses. The album itself feeds into broader progression by granting upgrades to Gold production, Dust yields, and future pack rewards.

City development forms the central hub. Six buildings can be upgraded to level 20, each enhancing specific aspects of the economy such as resource generation or access to additional features. The Mine boosts Gold output, the Archive expands collection capacity, and structures like the Workshop, Research Center, Portal, and Manor unlock further customization and opportunities.

Card improvement happens through the Workshop, where accumulated resources allow crafting of new cards or premium variants, permanent increases to Power and Gold production, inscription or rerolling of effects, and conversion of Gems and Orbs into higher-tier materials. A talent constellation with more than 300 options lets players allocate points across categories focused on Gold, Dust, Cards, Workshop, Expeditions, and the Monolith to tailor long-term strategy.

Game Modes

Progression occurs through interconnected single-player systems rather than distinct competitive modes. Expeditions involve assembling teams of cards for missions of varying length and difficulty. Team Power influences reward quality, which includes Gold, Dust, XP, Gems, Orbs, and other resources. Cards remain in the collection during these activities and are not consumed.

The Monolith requires selecting sixteen cards to form compositions that activate bonuses and resonances based on rarities, families, sets, and variants. Multiple presets can be saved and swapped to align with different goals. The Museum system centers on forging and collecting relics with rarities, qualities, prefixes, and suffixes that provide economic bonuses. Up to nine relics can be displayed, with options to dismantle unwanted ones for Relic Fragments. Trophies from achievements occupy a separate exhibition area.

These systems operate continuously in the background as idle elements, with player decisions shaping how collection growth, city upgrades, and resource management interact over time.

Is It Worth Playing?

The Archive Project suits players who enjoy methodical collection loops combined with idle strategy elements. Its strength lies in how every system connects: packs expand the album, the album strengthens the economy, city buildings open new tools, and cards gain purpose through workshops, expeditions, the museum, and the monolith. Detailed statistics and achievements provide clear tracking of progress without requiring constant active input.

Those drawn to gothic fantasy themes and the satisfaction of optimizing permanent upgrades will find the depth rewarding. The single-player focus emphasizes patient building over quick sessions or multiplayer competition. Availability is limited to PC, and the experience centers on long-term personal strategy rather than frequent content drops or seasonal events.
