Trolley Together is a real-time strategy game that turns the classic trolley problem into a fast-paced multiplayer experience. Players run between tracks as trains keep arriving, deciding in the moment which groups or individuals each train will hit. There is no single correct choice, and the game emphasizes quick decisions, communication, and the chaos that comes from differing opinions among friends or strangers.
Gameplay
The core loop involves constant movement across multiple tracks while trains approach without pause. Each track ends with one or more characters standing on it, and players must pull levers or otherwise direct the trains. Point values are assigned to different people, but these values shift based on the situation and the group's overall goals. Physical interactions add another layer, as players can shove others out of the way or even push them onto the tracks when arguments escalate.
Complications arise naturally during longer sessions. Characters can become tied together, forcing harder choices about saving multiple lives at once. The screen may invert, levers can become heavier to operate, and new character types appear that carry unexpected point values or special effects. These elements keep rounds unpredictable even after repeated play.
Game Modes
Co-op focuses on surviving a 20-day sequence. Each day requires the group to reach a target score by directing trains efficiently. As days progress, more varied characters arrive, and the pressure increases through the complications mentioned above. Beginner Mode offers a gentler introduction for new players, while Challenge Mode adds stricter targets and faster pacing.
Versus mode supports 4 to 8 players in a free-for-all format. Some participants may secretly aim to hit innocent characters on purpose while others try to protect them. Over 15 distinct roles are available, each with its own playstyle and potential for sabotage or cooperation. Four different maps provide variety in layout and track configurations.
Multiplayer and Social Features
Built-in voice chat encourages direct discussion during matches, with ping systems available as a backup. Players can physically intervene by punching friends who block levers or pushing them into the path of an oncoming train. These interactions turn every session into a mix of strategy and light-hearted conflict. A Polaroid-style camera automatically captures standout moments for later viewing and sharing.
The game supports online matchmaking and local play options, making it suitable for both organized groups and random lobbies. Early Access currently includes these features along with support for five languages.
Is It Worth Playing?
Trolley Together suits players who enjoy party-style games built around ethical dilemmas, quick thinking, and group dynamics. The co-op campaign rewards coordinated scoring and adaptation to changing conditions, while versus sessions thrive on deception and direct confrontation. Because the game is still in Early Access with plans for additional modes and balance adjustments, participants should expect ongoing refinements based on community input. Those who like chaotic multiplayer experiences centered on moral choices and physical comedy will find the current version engaging, especially in groups of three or more. Single-player elements exist but the design clearly prioritizes shared play.
