Playground Games' Fable is planned for a fall 2026 launch, with Microsoft verifying the timeframe, though the specific release date is still pending and listed as TBA.
The Fable franchise reboot by Playground Games, who developed Forza Horizon, began in 2018 after Lionhead Studios shut down in 2016. The team gained help from Eidos-Montréal, Third Kind Games, and Blizzard Entertainment. It represents the first fresh installment in 14 years, following Fable III in 2010. Microsoft shared gameplay during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, but no firm date emerged. The expected period is October through November 2026.
Fable is not currently open for preorder. Microsoft typically starts accepting orders 3-6 months prior to launch, so preorders may begin around mid-2026. The MSRP has not been set in any currency, with possible prices ranging from 69.99-79.99 USD, 49.99-69.99 EUR, and around 60-70 GBP. The game will be accessible on Xbox Game Pass starting on release day.
Fable will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC - marking the series' initial simultaneous release on a Sony console. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. The story unfolds in Albion, where the protagonist uncovers heroic powers after a stranger turns Briar Hill's residents to stone.
