About WARNO - Nemesis #3 - Homefront

WARNO - Nemesis #3 - Homefront - about the game

WARNO is a real-time strategy simulation game that places players in command of Cold War era military divisions during an alternate 1989 World War III scenario. The Nemesis #3 Homefront expansion adds two specialized defensive divisions to the existing roster, expanding options for both NATO and Warsaw Pact forces in defensive and rear-area operations.

Gameplay

Players select a division to form a battlegroup limited to 50 activation points for unit deployment. Income flows steadily during matches to reinforce positions or launch counterattacks. Units include infantry squads, armored vehicles, artillery batteries, helicopters, and fixed-wing aircraft, each with distinct roles in reconnaissance, direct fire, suppression, and air support. The US 6th Infantry Division (Light) emphasizes light infantry, airborne troops, and mixed support from National Guard elements alongside naval and air force assets. Core infantry consists of light rifles and airborne rifles supported by CH-54B Tarhe heavy-lift helicopters, M119 105mm howitzers, and AH-1S Cobra gunships. Additional assets include Alaskan Scouts, National Guard M48A5 ACAV recon tanks, A-7D Corsair II attack aircraft, OA-10A recon Thunderbolts, USAF Security squads in Peacekeeper wheeled APCs, Navy A-6E Intruder and EA-6B Prowler aircraft, USMC Security with Dragon 300 APCs, and Navy SEALs special forces.

The Soviet 157-ya Motostrelkovaya Diviziya relies on motorized infantry in limited BMP-1 and BTR-60 transports, supplemented by reservists in older BTR-152K and BTR-40 vehicles plus truck-borne Partizani squads. Armor features T-54B, T-55A, and even IS-2M tanks. Artillery draws from older stockpiles such as BS-3 100mm anti-tank guns, D-1 152mm howitzers, BM-24M MLRS, B-4M 203mm, and Br-5M 280mm super-heavy pieces. Coastal and naval elements add KSM-65 100mm guns, K-1 recon helicopters, and the A222 Bereg 130mm self-propelled gun. Air cover includes the Su-15TM and T-10K navalized fighter. These divisions suit players who prefer layered defenses, combined arms coordination, and exploitation of terrain advantages over rapid armored breakthroughs.

Game Modes

Matches occur in Skirmish against AI opponents, Ranked ladders, and open online multiplayer sessions. Conquest rules award victory points through control of map objectives while Destruction rules shift emphasis toward eliminating enemy units for points, though terrain control still influences income rates. Up to 20 players can participate in larger battles, with team compositions reaching 10 versus 10. The new divisions integrate directly into these formats, allowing customization of battlegroups with the added units, weapons, and vehicles for varied tactical approaches in both single-player practice and competitive play.

The New Divisions in Context

The US 6th Infantry Division (Light) originated for defense of Alaska against potential Soviet crossings of the Bering Sea and retains limited power projection capabilities. Its mixed composition of light infantry, paratroopers, and support from navy, air force, and National Guard units creates flexible defensive setups suited to holding key sectors against flanking maneuvers or airborne threats. The Soviet 157-ya Motostrelkovaya Diviziya, a mobilization formation based in Crimea, would absorb local training units and Black Sea Fleet assets during an invasion. It fields a broad mix of standard motor rifle troops alongside reservists and partisan elements equipped with legacy equipment, enabling sustained defensive lines supported by heavy artillery and coastal defenses.

Both divisions incorporate naval and air support elements that enhance rear-area security and counter amphibious or airborne operations. This addition broadens strategic choices for players focused on holding ground rather than pure offensive pushes.

Is It Worth Playing?

WARNO maintains an active development cycle with regular mini-expansions in the Nemesis series and ongoing Ranked seasons. Player feedback highlights strong tactical depth in unit management and division specialization, though some report occasional technical issues. The game suits enthusiasts of detailed real-time strategy simulations who enjoy deck-building, combined arms planning, and large-scale multiplayer engagements. Those seeking accessible entry points can start with skirmishes against AI before progressing to ranked or multiplayer matches. The Homefront expansion provides meaningful variety for existing players through its defensive-focused divisions and new unit options without altering core systems.
