About Clanker Calamity

Clanker Calamity - about the game

Clanker Calamity is a strategy indie casual racing game on PC where players program robots to navigate a chaotic automated factory floor. The core experience centers on committing instructions in advance and observing how those plans interact with moving hazards and rival bots in simultaneous turns.

Gameplay

Players receive a hand of instruction cards each shift and select five to commit in sequence without seeing the results until execution begins. Every bot on the floor carries out its first instruction at the same time, followed by the factory's hazards taking their turn, then the second instruction, and so on through all five steps. Hazards follow fixed schedules that players can learn and anticipate, including conveyor belts that shift positions sideways, turntables that rotate bots in different patterns, rams that push units, crushers that descend on schedule, and welding lasers that sweep across aisles.

Collisions between bots add another layer of interference as units shove one another off course. Damage accumulates from impacts and hazards, with each dent beyond the second reducing the number of cards available in the next shift. At higher damage thresholds slots begin to jam, forcing repeated instructions that can no longer be altered. Ten dents scrap the current chassis, sending the player back to a reboot point determined by the last clock punched or a quiet starting location in certain modes.

The factory layout supports up to four stories connected by ramps and lifts, with elements such as pressure plates, gates, trapdoors, mirrors that redirect lasers, teleporter pads, and service pads for repairs. Night Shift mode dims the lights so each bot relies on its own headlamp while hazards remain active. Opponent bots behave according to distinct personalities rather than simple difficulty settings, with some sticking rigidly to outdated plans, others ignoring hazards entirely, and a pair that observes the player's committed program before selecting their own moves.

Game Modes

Rally requires players to reach numbered punch clocks in the correct sequence, with the first bot to complete the final clock declared the winner. Deathmatch removes the clocks entirely and turns environmental hazards into tools for eliminating opponents, with the last unit still operational claiming victory. Both modes support 5-Slot play where all five instructions are chosen at once or Live play where cards are selected one at a time against a timer, though every participant still commits without knowledge of others' choices.

Single-player sessions pit the player against the factory's cast of AI opponents. Online matches accommodate two to eight participants. Party Play allows multiple people to control their own bots from separate devices using a browser interface while sharing one screen for the factory view. A built-in route builder lets users construct custom factory floors across multiple stories, connect interactive elements, test hazard timing with dummy units, and share completed layouts through the Steam Workshop. Card decks can also be customized by removing entire categories or adjusting their frequency to create new challenges.

Factory Hazards and Timing

Every hazard operates on predictable cycles rather than random chance, allowing skilled players to plan around exact step timings. Belts move bots laterally, magnetic variants pull units along specific paths, and turntables offer multiple rotation options including one that shifts direction each step. Rams and crushers activate on their own schedules, while lasers and flamethrowers sweep or project along fixed routes. Reflective surfaces redirect laser beams, and environmental features like one-way walls, live wires, and bouncers further constrain movement options. Teleporters cycle bots through loops that may deposit them on different levels, and falling off edges sends units downward between stories.

Service pads provide repair opportunities during a shift, and numbered clocks must be visited in order for Rally objectives. These systems combine to create situations where an apparently sound sequence of moves unravels after the first or second execution phase, rewarding players who adapt their next set of instructions based on observed outcomes.

Is It Worth Playing?

Clanker Calamity remains unreleased with a planned launch in November 2026 and currently has no player reviews or aggregated ratings available. The described mechanics emphasize careful observation of hazard schedules, adaptation after each simultaneous execution round, and competition against AI opponents with recognizable behavioral patterns. Players who enjoy programming-style puzzles, simultaneous turn resolution, and chaotic multiplayer interactions where plans frequently go awry may find the systems engaging. Those seeking traditional real-time control or random elements will encounter a different experience focused on timing and blind commitment. Availability on PC includes support for solo play, online sessions up to eight players, and experimental local party options without additional installations. Custom content creation through the route builder and deck adjustments extends replayability for users interested in designing their own challenges.
