The big one has arrived. Late June means the Steam Summer Sale is in full swing, and this year the discounts actually live up to the countdown. These Steam deals read like a hall of fame: Valve's untouchable classics, the greatest couch co-op zombie shooter going, and a couple of roguelikes that quietly steal months of your life. That is 23 deals, up to 95% off, starting at 0.85 GBP.

Highlights of the Week

Portal 2 is the headliner, 80% off and carrying a barely believable 98% rating from 361,000 reviews, one of the highest-regarded games on the entire platform. The single-player is a perfect comedy-puzzle box, and the co-op campaign is the best reason to rope in a friend all summer. If you somehow missed it, fix that now. While you are at it, Half-Life 2 is also 80% off at 97% positive.

For chaos with company, Left 4 Dead 2 at 80% off and 97% positive is still the co-op zombie blueprint everyone keeps copying. It is old, it is a little rough around the edges, and it is more fun with three friends than games ten times its budget. Endlessly replayable, endlessly loud.

Solo players should look hard at The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, 90% off with a 97% rating. It is a grotesque, brilliant roguelike with a genuinely bottomless bag of items, the kind of game you fire up for one run and close three hours later. Dying Light sits at the same 90% off if you would rather sprint from zombies at sunset instead.

Should You Buy Now or Wait?

Since this is Summer Sale pricing, most of these are at the floor they hit twice a year. Valve games almost never budge outside the big sales, so Portal 2 and Half-Life 2 at 80% are as good as it gets, so buy now. The Binding of Isaac and Dying Light at 90% are both at or near their lows too.

Hogwarts Legacy at 85% is the interesting case. It is a newer game that has only recently started dipping this deep, so it is a fair price, but if you are patient it may shed a little more by the Winter Sale. Everything else here you can buy today without a second thought.
